Safe Place
Often a traumatic event makes you feel that places that used to feel safe aren’t safe anymore. It’s important for you to have a place where you can feel safe and calm, even if it’s only in your imagination.
Avoid The Feelings
After you’ve experienced a trauma, your feelings can be overwhelming. However, feelings are natural, normal, and one of the ways we experience the world. Trying to avoid your feelings often makes the feelings worse.
Stop Avoiding
It’s common to want to avoid anything that reminds you of the trauma that you experienced. That may involve avoiding people and places that were associated with the trauma, or even people who might ask you how you are doing. For you to fully heal from your trauma, it’s important to stop avoiding. Gradually exposing yourself to the people, places, and situations you have been avoiding will help you to fully heal.
Why You Have Trauma
The trauma that you experienced is only a small part of who you are and the experiences that you will have as a person. It was an important part of your life, at least for a while, but there is much more to your life.
